Petroterminal de Panamá Strengthens Dengue Prevention Efforts in Barú

Petroterminal de Panamá delivered heavy-duty fogging equipment valued at B/.15,622.00 to the Vector Control Department of the Ministry of Health (MINSA) in Barú, Chiriquí, with the aim of strengthening control efforts against the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which transmit dengue, chikungunya, and Zika.

The donation consisted of an AU9000E Micron ULV fogger, specialized equipment used in community fogging operations and epidemiological control. According to MINSA data, the province of Chiriquí recorded more than 800 cases of dengue in 2025 and remains under constant monitoring by health authorities.

Nationwide, Panama ended 2025 with 16,262 cumulative dengue cases. Although this figure represents a decrease compared to the previous year, authorities attribute this trend to the continuation of vector control strategies and community participation in preventive actions. The equipment will be used by MINSA in fumigation and vector control operations in Barú and surrounding areas, indirectly benefiting an estimated population of 50,000 people. The initiative was carried out in coordination with health authorities, prioritizing an operational need identified in the region.
